Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm not really sure where to start so I'll pass on this quote from Alan :- "Alexis Rose, our beautiful baby daughter, was 16 months old when she died very suddenly of meningitis this year. She had bags of personality and was by nature a fighter- born nearly 3 months early and weighing 2lb 12 ounces she spent a while in hospital alongside her twin sister but quickly grew in strength. She was always laughing and making us laugh, we will never forget her toothy smile and the way she would look over to make sure people were watching before she did something naughty. She was so happy and healthy and we never dreamed that anything could ever take her away from us, but meningitis ended her life within hours. We have decided to continue Alexis's fight and refuse to let meningitis beat us by raising money to fund research into this terrible illness" So, to help raise awareness & funds I'm taking part in the Tour De Ben Nevis mountain bike endurance, marathon. The route takes competitors through 72km of the most rugged terrain in Scotland, if not the world. Starting in Ft William and following mountain tracks, estate & drovers roads it circumnavigates Ben Nevis via Kinlochleven, Spean Bridge and Torlundy before returning to Ft William. In the true spirit of mountain biking competitors must be self sufficient for the duration of the event (5-10 hours), which includes a river crossing (carry bike & wade) and a climb to over 2500 feet above sea level. The race will be physically & mentally challenging but knowing that completing it will raise funds to help research in to meningitis will spur me on. Your donations will directly help those affected by meningitis and donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. On behalf of Alan, Ruth, Billy, Christina and everyone else affected by meningitis, thank you for your support. Ian
